Wildcats to face Boston College in AdvoCare V100 Bowl

25-careyUniversity of Arizona football has accepted an invitation to play Boston College at the AdvoCare V100 Bowl (the former Independence Bowl) in Shreveport, La., it was announced by the Bowl committee and Arizona Athletics on Sunday. The Wildcats’ game with the Eagles will be played Tues., Dec. 31, at 10:30 a.m. MT and will air on ESPN.

“We’re excited to be invited to the AdvoCare V100 Bowl in Shreveport,” Athletics Director Greg Byrne said. “This is a great reward for our team, Coach Rodriguez and our program. We’ll be making our second consecutive bowl appearance and have a shot at our second consecutive eight-win season. In order for us to reach our long-term goals of playing in Rose Bowls and contending for National Championships, we have to build from a strong foundation that includes making a bowl game each and every season. We’ve had great support from Arizona fans all season, and I hope it continues at the bowl game. We hope to see many of our fans in Shreveport on Dec. 31.”

“Our team is looking forward to playing a very well-respected program in a very well-respected bowl game,” head coach Rich Rodriguez said. “I spoke to the committee after we got the invitation and I know they are excited to have us, and I reiterated how excited we are. I’m hoping we’ll have a large contingent of UA fans head out to Shreveport for the holidays.”

Arizona will participate in its 18th bowl game in program history with the first coming at the 1921 Christmas Classic in San Diego. After a drought from the 1999-2007 seasons, the Wildcats have played in a bowl game in five of the last six seasons, missing only the 2011 campaign. Last season, Arizona won a thriller in Albuquerque at the Gildan New Mexico Bowl, defeating the Nevada Wolf Pack, 49-48.

The AdvoCare V100 Bowl will mark Arizona’s first trip to Shreveport and its first match up with Boston College. The game will pit the two teams with the top two running backs in the country. It will be a match up of Heisman Candidate Trophy Andre Williams of Boston College and Ka’Deem Carey, PAC-12 player of the year against each other.
