Members of the Salvation Army and hundreds of community volunteers have been preparing to serve an estimated 7,700 meals on Christmas Day. The Salvation Army began preparing for its annual Christmas Dinner at the Phoenix Convention Center on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2012.
An estimated 5,500 guests are expected at the congregate meal and 2,200 meals will be delivered to the homebound.
This year, the historic Red Kettle campaign was cut short because of the late date of the Thanksgiving holiday. Paired with the winter storms across the country in early December, they fear that they might see a decrease in their crucial donations by $20 million.
