Gosar questions release of blind Sheikh’s lawyer

terroristArizona Congressman Paul Gosar is questioning the decision by the Bureau of Prisons and Attorney General Eric Holder’s Department of Justice to release Lynne Stewart, who is a former lawyer convicted of aiding terrorism. Stewart, a former defense lawyer, was convicted of conspiracy and providing material support to terrorists in 2005 by passing messages from her former client, Omar Abdel Rahman – the blind Sheikh.

Omar Abdel Rahman is serving a life sentence for planning terrorist attacks, including the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, and other unsuccessful or unfulfilled attacks against New York landmarks.

Gosar said, “Eric Holder’s Department of ‘Injustice’ continues ignoring the rule of law and common sense. Lynne Stewart’s early release is a travesty of justice. After being found guilty of her treasonous acts, she was sentenced to a meager 10 years in prison. And now she’s getting out early? It’s unfathomable that a traitor and facilitator of terrorism would ever see the outside of a cell. Americans are disgusted and I again call on Attorney General Holder to resign immediately. His lack of regard for justice continues unabated.”

On December 31, 2013, Stewart was released after a federal judge in New York City ordered a “compassionate release” because she is allegedly dying of cancer. The motion for early release was facilitated by the U.S. Attorney for New York. The U.S. Attorney is an appointed Obama official and is an employee of Attorney General Eric Holder’s Department of Justice.
