On Friday, February 14, 2014 at approximately 4 p.m. Joseph Andrew Dekenipp, age 40, escaped from a the fenced recreational yard at the Pinal County Jail. Apparently, Dekenipp was able to climb to the top of the fence and then he crawled through the razor wire and jumped down onto the other side of the fence and ran to a second perimeter fence and climbed over it as well.
After a manhunt with the assistance of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Department of Corrections, Florence Police Department, Coolidge Police Department, U.S. Marshals, and numerous K-9s, Dekenipp was located in Coolidge and he was taken into custody without incident. He will be treated for the injuries he sustained after climbing through the razor wire and then he will be transported back to the Pinal County Adult Detention Center and he will be booked for Escape.
Dekenipp was inside the fenced recreational yard with other inmates. When the inmates returned back to their housing unit, it was determine Dekenipp was unaccounted for. The fence in the recreational yard is approximately 12 feet tall with razor wire.
Dekenipp received serious cuts as a result of climbing through the razor wire. K-9’s tracked him to a nearby roadway where his scent stopped. It appears at this time he got into a vehicle driven by another individual.
Dekenipp was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on January 10th, 2014 for the charges of Theft of Mean of Transportation, Trafficking in Stolen Property, Unlawful Flight, Theft and Driving on a Suspended License. He was currently being held on a $5,000 bond. His next scheduled court date was for a pretrial conference on February 25th, 2014.
