In January 2014, the Tucson Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit developed information that an adult male was utilizing a social networking website in an attempt to solicit underage juveniles for sexual purposes.
Detectives initiated an investigation and were able to identify the suspect as 30-year-old Roy Combs. On February 18, 2014, Mr. Combs went to a midtown location to meet with whom he believed to be the juvenile he had been communicating online. The purpose of the meeting was for sexual purposes. Upon his arrival, Mr. Combs was taken into custody by U.S. Marshal’s and Tucson Police Detectives without incident. Mr. Combs was booked into the Pima County Jail for 1 count of Aggravated Luring a Minor for Sexual Exploitation and 1 count of Attempted Sexual Conduct with a Minor.
The Tucson Police Department urges parents to continually monitor their children’s social media accounts. Knowing and monitoring your child’s online friends, connections and conversations is crucial for their safety.
