Prescott High School is mourning one of their own. English teacher Derk Janssen fell ill during class Thursday morning and unexpectedly passed away.
Now, students are absorbing the loss of a favorite teacher and expressing their deep sadness on Facebook. With comments pouring in, their love and affection for Janssen is obvious.
“Rest in Peace, Mr. Derk Janssen, you were such an amazing teacher…”
“R.I.P. To Mr. Derk Janssen, you were an awesome teacher and a great man. He would come into Macayos where I worked on occasion and order a beer and talk to me about life(; you’ll be greatly missed…”
“It saddens me to say goodbye to one of my favorite teachers from high school, Mr. Derk Janssen. You were an enormous influence…”
“Today has been a long day. It comes in spells that I cry for the loss of my amazing, wonderful and dear teacher, Derk Janssen. You were an inspiration to so many and losing you is harder that [sic] I could imagine. You were a strong figure, a teacher, and a coach that I love…”
“To say you were kind would be an understatement…”
Janssen was also an author of two poetry books, The Changing Colors In A Sunset(1986) and At The Forest Edge (2008).
