Alcohol may be factor in fatal Kino Parkway crash

On Monday, March 3, 2014, at 3:43 a.m., Tucson Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision near the intersection of Kino Parkway and Benson Highway. Upon arrival, officers located a single vehicle accident on Kino Parkway north of Benson Highway. The passenger of the vehicle, 21-year old Devante Michael Carranza, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 22-year old female driver was transported to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Traffic Investigation Unit responded to continue the investigation. They determined that a 2009 Pontiac G6 was traveling northbound on Kino Parkway. The vehicle struck the solid cement wall on the eastside of Kino Parkway which caused the vehicle to roll. The driver was ejected from the vehicle. Detectives believe alcohol and speed were a factor in the collision.
