Last Friday, PETA had 2 naked women painted green at the corner of Stone and Pennington downtown to promote awareness. They had other PETA members passing out literature and held signs saying “Go Green” on them.
Their main rallying cry was to promote veganism.
We spoke to their point man Bruce who said, “We are in Tucson to show people that they really want to go green or vegan. Going vegan doesn’t only save countless animals lives from the slaughterhouse, but it is also the easiest most effective thing we can do to protect the environment.”
Bruce also spoke about how going vegan helps save water particularly after the water issues in California, “They are surprised to learn that it takes about 25 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of meat. Right now with a record breaking drought, it becomes clear that the best thing we can do is the most compassionate thing.”
No doubt the women in green were a big attraction and spiced up downtown with countless people interacting with them and the vegan message being heard.
But why the green naked women? Bruce says it is the most effective way to get attention. “People walk by, and they see our girls, and they seem them and get their picture taken. They take a lot of literature from us.”
PETA does naked demos all over the country throughout the year. Bruce commented, “We do naked demos like this all over the country all year long. This is our St. Patrick’s day theme.”
With lots of vegan literature and a memorable picture to take, PETA is trying to change the world in an open, friendly, and positive way.
