Fisher Fire burns near Walnut Canyon

The Fisher Fire, reported at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, is located near Fisher Point in Walnut Canyon approximately five miles southeast of Flagstaff in the vicinity of the Fisher Fire from last year.

Currently the fire is estimated at 85 acres. The fire is burning in timber on slopes spreading to the East-Southeast away from Flagstaff. Smoke is very visible. No structures are currently threatened.

On Friday, fire activity included group torching, 2 – 4 foot flame lengths on the surface, and short range spotting though fire activity has decreased into the evening. Crews are constructing dozer line, direct, and indirect line into the night around the head of the fire anchoring into trails, roads, and the previous Fisher Fire.

Today, temperatures are expected to be between 60 and 64 degrees, wind gusts between 20 – 25 miles per hour, and a low relative humidity around 15%. There is a chance for showers in the afternoon.

The public should be aware there will be area closures around the vicinity of the fire tomorrow which does include some of the trail system.
