Pima County supervisors reject budget study session

On Tuesday, the Pima County Board of Supervisors rejected a proposal by Supervisor Ally Miller to hold budget study session for the public to have the opportunity to ask questions about the proposed County budget. Supervisors Sharon Bronson, Richard Elias and Ramon Valadez voted against the proposal.

In a recent opinion piece for the Green Valley News, Miller said she was advocating that the Pima County Board of Supervisors adopt conduct the study session “on behalf of the citizens of Pima County,” because they are “a best practice, conducted by all municipalities to ensure transparency and accountability to the citizens that the supervisors represent.”

Supervisor Valadez said only that he did not support the study session because the Board had a meeting scheduled for the day after the proposed study date. Valadez did not elaborate as to why that was a basis for his objection.

According to Miller, the Chuck Huckelberry the County administrator, has proposed a budget that would result in a total property tax increase of $0.61. This is a 16.6 percent increase would add almost $100 to the average homeowner’s tax bill.
