On Thursday May 15, 2014 the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a student and teacher at the San Simon High School being involved in an inappropriate relationship. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the school and obtained the initial information indicating that there was some type of relationship between a 16 year old high school boy and a 34 year old high school teacher.
Sheriff’s Office Deputies made contact with the 16 year old boy who provided information regarding a personal relationship with a teacher at the school. Sheriff’s Office Detectives were advised and conducted several more interviews over the course of the past few days. Initial contact was made with the teacher who has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation is continuing.
Upon completion of the investigation, this case will be forwarded to the Cochise County Attorney’s Office for review and possible charges.
San Simon High School Principal Jonathan Truschke said in a statement released Wednesday, that he was notified by a staff member on May 15, 2014 they filed a state mandated report to law enforcement regarding information from a community member about a sexually inappropriate voice mail message left for a student.
“I was notified by Cliff Shipley, from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, that I was not to talk to anyone about the allegations until I was informed otherwise. As the teacher was not on campus and not an immediate continued threat to the student, I complied with the request from law enforcement,” stated Truschke. “The teacher has since been reassigned to home pending an investigation. I have made the necessary report to the State Board of Education.”
