“Respectful Retirement” of American flag event on Sunday

American flag, americaIn honor of Monday’s Memorial Day, there is an event on Sunday May 25th, 2014. The Tucson Community is invited to attend a very special ceremony in Honor of our Fallen American Hero’s and the Respectful Retirement of any American Flags that they fought to defend.

Organizer Todd Clodfelter says, “In honor of Memorial Day we are going to have a ceremony to pay our respects to those Veterans who have died in combat paying the ultimate sacrifice and part of the ceremony to do that will be to retire American flags in their memory. That is the flag they fought for and to protect.”

If you have a flag that is torn, tattered and needs to be disposed of properly, we invite you to bring your flag and attend the event. “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

You can bring your own flag or you can participate with one already collected from the Tucson community. Boy & Girl scouts will be selling water and make sure to bring a lawn chair or blanket. The event will run roughly from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
