Once again, the U.S. Consulate in Nogales, Mexico has issued a warning “due to multiple and ongoing credible threats” for Americans traveling in Nogales or surrounding areas. The Consulate is advising Americans to “defer unnecessary travel at this time.”
The Consulate is warning that travel at “night and to areas not frequented by foreigners should be avoided. U.S. Citizens are urged to take the highest precautions regarding their safety and personal security in and around Nogales.”
In order to receive the “most current security information available,” the U.S. Consulate General in Nogales is encouraging all United States Citizens living in or visiting northern Sonora to follow them on Twitter, or “like” them on Facebook. The Consulate will use Twitter and Facebook to disseminate regular and time sensitive information related to the security situation in northern Sonora.
As reported by the AZDI, shortly before the initial warning by the Consul on Saturday, three people were killed in a cartel shooting at a KFC near the Consulate in Nogales, Mexico.
The Nogales International has reported a total of five people were shot dead in three incidents between Saturday and early Monday in the city, including a 24-year-old Jorge Luis Soto, who is believed to be from Tucson, Arizona. The body of Soto was found early Monday in a Chevy Tahoe parked on the side of Highway 15 on the south end of the city, according to the Nogales International.
