Perp’s own check leads Pima County detectives to arrest

humbertoCrime doesn’t pay, and if you are a complete idiot, the little bit of money you do have will be lost in short order.

That is what happened to 25-year-old Humberto Andres Tequida Jr. on May 20, 2014, after Pima County deputies responded to the Chase Bank, located at 2920 W. Valencia Road, about a strong armed robbery. When deputies arrived, they learned the victim had just completed her business transactions and was walking to her car when she was approached by a man suspect who grabbed her bank bag and ran from the scene.

Pima County detectives learned that the suspect cashed a check in the Chase Bank before the robbery. Detectives retrieved the check and learned it was cashed by Tequida. The check also had his driver’s license number on the back. The victim was able to identify Humberto Tequida Jr. as the man who robbed her when shown a photo line-up. Tequida is a suspect in other crimes that are currently being investigated.

On June 3, 2014, Robbery/Assault detectives located and arrested Humberto Tequida Jr. at his residence in the 5100 block of South Livingstone Drive. He was transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Center and booked on one count of Robbery.
