Casa Grande to hold Safe Surrender Day for wanted

The Casa Grande City Court will host a Safe Surrender Day on Monday, June 30 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Individuals who have warrants for their arrest out of the Casa Grande City Court can present themselves before the court, appear before a judge, and learn what they need to do in order to resolve any issues they may have with the court.

Anyone who appears will not be arrested regardless of warrant status.

The Casa Grande City Court has more than 5,000 active warrants. According to officials, each of these warrants represents a victim without restitution, a criminal charge without resolution, a fine that has not been paid, or a sentence that has not been completed. As a consequence, these cases remain unresolved, and the City of Casa Grande must expend significant resources in order to execute these warrants and bring the defendants before the court.

“Often, criminal defendants refuse to come to court when they know that they have warrants for their arrest because they are afraid of going to jail,” explains City Judge Christopher O’Neil. “A safe surrender day encourages defendants to present themselves before the court of their own volition, and encourages them to resolve their cases, take responsibility for payment of their fines, and bring themselves back into compliance with the court.”

Individuals who show up will learn what they need to do to have their warrants quashed, set up a new court date, reset payment plans, or resolve any other issues with the Casa Grande City Court, with no risk of arrest.

The Casa Grande Municipal Court is located at 373 East 9th Street. Regular staffed hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information call (520) 421-8675.
