Phoenix cancer patient robbed of donations for treatment

cancerA 23 year old Phoenix man is undergoing cancer treatment, and on June 29th, 2014 he picked up a large sum of cash from his Aunt that had been raised on his behalf during a fundraiser for his treatment. The young man then went to St. Mary’s High School to watch a friend play basketball.

The young man was leaving the gymnasium when he heard someone yell at him from behind and he was knocked to the ground. The suspect pointed a handgun at the young man and demanded money. The young man gave the suspect the envelope containing his treatment funds and the suspect ran to a white Buick in the parking lot and started to leave.

As the suspect was pulling away he collided with a green pole, causing damage to the passenger side mirror and door.

The young man’s mother spoke of her son, “He has stage 4 cancer and he has been battling the disease for a year now. Whether he beats this or not he is fighting a good fight. He is my only child and my husband and I are his support team, I thank God for my son every day”.

The family has asked that they not be identified as this time as they deal with their son’s illness.

Phoenix Police detectives are asking the public’s assistance in getting the thief identified. They are asking anyone who may have information concerning the suspect or this investigation to please call Silent Witness at (480) W-I-T-N-E-S-S. As always, any caller may remain anonymous and could earn an award of up to $1000.00.
