I-10 traffic stop leads to drug arrest & child abuse charge

Pima County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Friday, July 31, 2014, at approximately 11:40 a.m., the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Border Indication Unit conducted a routine traffic stop involving the speeding Border Indication Unit at I-10 and Arva Valley Road. The driver, 35-year-old Saul Estrella-Lizarraga, accompanied by his 9-year-old son, was traveling from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico to Phoenix, Arizona.

Estrella-Lizarraga allowed deputies to search his vehicle and a concealed compartment containing drugs was located. Deputies seized 7.5 pounds of Heroin, 5 pounds of Cocaine and 3.3 pounds of Methamphetamine.

Estrella-Lizarraga was arrested and transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex.

Estrella-Lizarraga was booked on the following charges:

•    6 counts of Narcotic Drug Violations
•    1 count of Child Abuse

The child was released to his mother’s custody.
