In the early morning hours of August 4th, 2014 Detectives with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Bureau were conducting surveillance in the area of Barnes Road and Anderson Road, Stanfield, due to the high number of burglaries occurring in the area.
At 1:05 a.m. a detective observed a yellow 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck pull into a business in the 33000 block of West Barnes Road. He watched Jason Mathew Klidy (age 33 from Stanfield) exit the vehicle’s driver seat and approach heavy duty equipment. The detective could then hear loud metal on metal banging noises. A short while later he observed Alan Ray Church (age 47 from Stanfield) exit the front passenger seat of the truck. Both men then loaded stolen electric engines into the bed of the truck and drove off.
Detectives conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle on Anderson Road and Solana Avenue, Stanfield, where they observed the two stolen electric motors in the bed of the truck. Klidy and Church were taken into custody and transported to the PCSO substation in Stanfield. Upon arrival both men were questioned and Church admitted to his involvement in the burglary. Klidy denied any involvement in the burglary. Both men were arrested and charged with Burglary and Theft, and booked into the Pinal County Jail.
The 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck was confiscated and will be forfeited.
Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “Precious metal theft is a favorite of meth addicts. They steel hundreds of dollars worth of metal, yet destroy machinery resulting in more significant financial loss. Jason Klidy and Alan Church thought they could steal like thieves in the night. They will now be behind bars and face penalties for their crimes.”
