The Pima County/Tucson Women’s Commission, created in 1975, is seeking diverse applicants to fill four At-Large vacancies by October 1. The 20-member commission, an all-volunteer working body, is welcoming members from all parts of the community.
Applicants should submit a biography of 150-200 words explaining how their qualifications would fit the commission’s goals. These goals include taking positive action to expose, eliminate and prevent discrimination against women in education, employment/compensation, credit, housing, community services and related fields. Bios should be e-mailed to Hofmeyr.Adriane@gmail.com. In September, applicants will be invited to observe the commission, which meets monthly at the commission office, 240 N. Court Avenue in Downtown Tucson’s historic Presidio District.
Activities of the commission have included sponsorship of an annual Women in Government Day celebrating workers’ achievements, skills-building workshops, and hearings on current issues. Recent publications have included a guide to women’s health care and a survivors’ guide to domestic abuse. Other activities have included briefings on women in poverty, U-visas, consumer fraud and female trafficking.
