DiCiccio gains support for opposition to parking meters at parks

phoenix-parking-metersPhoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio says he is gaining momentum in his fight to get parking meters out of the City’s parks. To date, DiCiccio has received over 400 emails and calls, which he says have been vital in his fight.

Three more members of the Council, have joined DiCiccio’s fight; Councilman Michael Nowakowski, Councilman Jim Waring, and Councilwoman Thelda Williams. According to DiCiccio, they have all come out in opposition to the placement of parking meters in the parks. DiCiccio told constituents in a newsletter, “I am so pleased to have them join with us in this fight. On Monday, I sent a letter to Mayor Stanton insisting that City Council discuss and vote on the issue rather than merely allowing the decision to be made by the unelected Parks Board which is not accountable to voters.”

DiCiccio says he has not yet received an answer from Mayor Stanton. DiCiccio says that if Stanton “fails to heed our call, there is a mechanism available that I am ready to pursue. The rules of the City Council allow for an item to be placed on the agenda if four council members request it. Now that Council members Nowakowski, Waring, and Williams are on board, we have enough members to make that happen.”

A Parks Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 28th at 5:00pm in the City Council Chambers.
