Pima County has gone to great lengths to sell the voters on the need for a gold plated animal care facility. Some might say the sales pitch amounts to deceptive advertising.
Here are a few things that the county left out of the Pima County Voters’ Information Guide that oddly did not include even one letter objecting to the bond measure. Why?
There were many letters of support including those from friends of Chuck Huckleberry, like Bob Gugino and County board members Ray Carroll, Ramon Valadez and Richard Elias.
Somehow, the opponents to bond were left out of the conversation. Their voices were silenced by the small print.(See small print here and here)
So, what would they have said if they had the chance?
Did you know:
• Even PETA addresses the deadly consequences of ‘No-Kill’ policies.
• It has been proven that at a ‘minimal or no kill’ open door facility demand will always quickly exceed capacity.
• 13% for consulting fees is over 2 /12 times what typical fees run for this size project.
• Similar facilities with similar objective, surgical units, open door and minimal kill policies have been built in the recent past, for much less than the $500 dollars per sq. ft. projected by the County.
• Recently even in high cost areas of the north east U.S., full service hospitals have been built for about $300 per sq.ft.
• The 2009 planning figures used to project the current facility cast has major discrepancies when compared to the current bond proposal. If the County administration continues flipping cost figures, can the taxpayer have confidence in the latest estimates?
• The board has demonstrated that with a simple majority, the BOS can redirect funding, change or expand the scope or location as long as the character of purpose remains the same.
As more analysis and research is done more information comes to the surface as one digs into the mystery of the real reason for this bond issue.
