Tucson 7 month old left in vehicle dies

tucson-policeThe Tucson Police Department is investigating the death of a 7-month old Isabel Ledo Herrera, believed to have been left in a vehicle for an extended period of time.

On October 22, at about 5:19 p.m., officers responded to East Grant Road and North Country Club Road for a report of an unconscious infant inside of a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers located a father and his 7-month old daughter outside of a vehicle in a parking lot. The Tucson Fire Department was on scene treating the 7-month old. She was immediately transported to University Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased shortly after her arrival.

The Dependent Child Unit responded to continue the investigation. They examined evidence at the scene and spoke with the involved family. At this point, detectives confirmed that the father was driving his vehicle and was unaware at the time that anyone else was in the car. He noticed the 7-month old in the back seat unconscious and immediately stopped the car at Grant Road and Country Club Road and contacted 911. Based on initial information, detectives believe the baby may have been in the vehicle for as long as 8-hours. No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing at this time and only limited information is available for release.
