A stretch of westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) in Mesa will be closed this weekend (Oct. 24-27) as crews start a major widening project, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Interstate 10 also will be narrowed in either direction in the Buckeye area for resurfacing projects. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time or consider alternate routes while these scheduled restrictions are in place:
- Westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) closed between McDowell Road and Country Club Drive in Mesa from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 27) to allow crews to shift lanes and place temporary barrier wall for a freeway-widening work zone. DETOUR: Please consider alternate routes, including westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway). Traffic exiting Loop 202 at the closure can detour to westbound McKellips Road.
- Westbound Interstate 10 narrowed to one lane in areas between Watson Road and State Route 85 in Buckeye from 9 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 25) for resurfacing. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes, including westbound Broadway Road or Southern Avenue to northbound State Route 85 and westbound I-10.
- Eastbound Interstate 10 narrowed to one lane between Miller and Watson roads in Buckeye from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 25) for resurfacing. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.
- Northbound State Route 143 closed overnight between Interstate 10 and McDowell Road near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 25) for overhead sign work. DETOUR: Westbound I-10 drivers who normally would use northbound SR 143 to reach the airport can exit at 40th Street and use eastbound University Drive and northbound 44th Street. Westbound I-10 drivers also can use Sky Harbor’s west end entrance via the Buckeye Road exit.
