CBP officers have busy weekend seizing vehicles, drugs

drugs-mariposaU.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Port of Douglas arrested a local woman and a Mexican man Nov. 1 following separate attempts to smuggling more than $250,000 worth of marijuana.

CBP officers assigned to the Port of Naco, located a load of marijuana within a compartment in the floor of a smuggling vehicle. Further search of a smuggling vehicle led to the discovery of packages of marijuana underneath the seats of the smuggling vehicle.

Manuel De Jesus Lopez-Montano, 65, was arrested for attempting to smuggle nearly 255 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $127,000, concealed throughout his Dodge truck.

Rosalylya Espinosa-Lopez, 30, of Douglas, was arrested after a CBP narcotic detection canine alerted to nearly 246 pounds of marijuana, worth nearly $123,000, concealed throughout her Pontiac sedan.

Officers seized the vehicles and marijuana, and referred both suspects to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

A 26-year-old Mexican man was arrested Nov. 1 for attempting to smuggle approximately 60 pounds of marijuana through the Port of Naco.

CBP officers assigned to the Port of Naco, located a load of marijuana within a compartment in the floor of a smuggling vehicle.

Customs and Border Protection officers referred a Mercedes sedan driven by Jose Humberto Osuna-Carvajal for further inspection and found 57 packages of marijuana valued at approximately $30,000. Officers located the packages within a compartment built into the vehicle’s floor with the assistance of a CBP narcotics detection canine.

Officers seized the drugs and vehicle, and referred Osuna to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

More than 82 pounds of cocaine and methamphetamine were seized during separate weekend smuggling attempts at the Port of Nogales.

CBP assigned to the Port of Nogales located meth concealed within the front and rear bumpers of a smuggling vehicle.

Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa crossing referred a 21-year-old man from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico for further questioning and a secondary inspection of the Mercury sedan he was driving on Oct. 31. Inside the vehicle’s bumpers, officers found nearly 18 pounds of methamphetamine worth close to $54,000.

Later that day, officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing referred a 62-year-old woman from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico for further inspection of her Isuzu SUV. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs, officers located nearly five pounds of cocaine, worth almost $52,000 and nearly 46 pounds of meth, worth almost $137,000, within one of the vehicle’s rear quarter panels.

Officers at the Mariposa crossing on Nov. 1 found 14 pounds of meth, worth in excess of $42,000, inside a Dodge sedan belonging to a 26-year-old woman from Goodyear, Arizona after a drug detection canine alerted officers to the vehicle’s back seats.

Officers seized all drugs and vehicles, and turned the subjects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Yuma, Arizona man Oct. 31 for attempting to smuggle more than 10 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.

CBP officers located and seized ten packages of meth within the front of the vehicle frame.

Joel Omar Celaya, 22, was apprehended at the Port of San Luis after officers found 10 packages of crystal meth in the front frame of his vehicle.

Officers seized the drugs, worth more than $31,000, and vehicle. Celaya was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
