Sun Tran bus driver attacker identified

duarteThe Tucson Police Department had sought the public’s assistance for information on the possible whereabouts of a suspect involved in an aggravated assault/stabbing of a Sun Tran bus driver.

On November 12, 2014, at approximately 10:00 p.m. the victim was on a break near the Laos Transit Center. He was taking a walk outside of the complex when an unknown male approached him and began asking him random questions. Once inside the center the male suspect left him alone and the victim ran to a security guard. Moments later, the suspect approached the victim and the security guard. Without provocation the suspect punched the security guard in the face. The suspect then stabbed the bus driver in the chest and abdomen with an unknown object, before fleeing the scene on foot.

Detectives responded to the incident location that evening to collect evidence and to speak with the victims and witnesses. Officers searched for the suspect but he was not located.

Investigators from the Aggravated Assault Unit now identified who they believe to be the suspect in this incident. A felony arrest warrant has been obtained for 18-year old Joshua Lee Duarte, for Aggravated Assault w/a Deadly Weapon/Dangerous Instrument. Duarte should be considered armed and dangerous. If you know the whereabouts or possible whereabouts of Duarte, do not attempt to approach him. Please call 911 or 88-CRIME.
