On Nov. 18, 2014, at approximately 12:28 p.m., Pinal County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call for a welfare check on Dan Cecil, a 65-year-old male located around South Picacho Hwy and Ellis Rd, west of Picacho Peak and soutn of Eloy, AZ.
Cecil’s son, who called dispatch, reported that his father had just called him to let him know he was attacked by a swarm of bees and stung approximately 100+ times, while operating a back hoe on his ranch. While speaking with dispatch, his son was able to confirm that his father was not allergic to bee stings.
While Pinal County Sheriff’s Deputies, Arizona City Fire Department and Eloy Fire Department were en route, a friend, who was with Cecil in the wash where they were working, placed Cecil into a 2000 Ford F-150. The friend then drove out of the wash and toward a main road where first responders could easily locate them.
Though PCSO had its Search and Rescue Helicopter on stand-by, Deputies and fire rescue crews found Cecil and his friend with their truck near the area of Sunland Gin Rd. and Pearce Rd., near Eloy, AZ.
Crews rendered aid at the scene and Cecil was then transported by Eloy Fire Ambulance to Banner Casa Grande for further medical evaluation.
Sheriff Babeu stated, “Though these two were in a remote area, off of a main road, we always recommend that after you call 9-1-1 you remain in place while first responders search for you if possible. Fortunately, in this case, Deputies and rescue crews located the vehicle the victim was in and were able to render care necessary.”
