Pima County teen brothers use airsoft gun in carjacking

carjacking-pima-countyOn November 25, 2014, at approximately 1:40 p.m., Pima County deputies responded to a carjacking in the 6400 block of North Oracle Road. While en-route, deputies learned two males, one of which was armed with a pistol, approached the victim and demanded his vehicle.

The suspects took the keys to the 42-year–old victim’s vehicle and departed westbound on Orange Grove Road. Responding deputies located the stolen vehicle heading southbound on La Canada north of River Road. The suspects turned westbound on River Road with deputies in pursuit.

In an attempt to evade deputies the driver of the vehicle turned into the parking lot of the Candlewood Suites, located at 1995 West River Road, and collided with a palm tree. The suspects exited the vehicle and tried to flee on foot towards La Cholla Boulevard, but were quickly taken into custody.

Deputies retrieved the weapon used by the suspects during the robbery from the vehicle. The weapon turned out to be an Airsoft type pistol. The suspects, identified as 17-year-old Manuel Miranda and his brother, 15-year-old Jacob Miranda were transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex and booked. Manuel was charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Robbery, Kidnapping, and Theft of Means of Transportation. Jacob was charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Robbery, Kidnapping, Theft of Means of Transportation, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage, and Unlawful Flight From Law Enforcement.
