On Saturday November 29, at 6:00 p.m., the Scottsdale Police Department responded to a protest at the intersection of Marshall Way and Main St at the “Jack Knife” cowboy statue. An estimated 50 protesters showed up to protest “the police” and Ferguson related issues.

Like 100 or so people who showed up in Tucson’s downtown, the protesters were allowed to lie in the street pretending to be corpses.

The Scottsdale group marched peacefully until they arrived at the major intersection of Scottsdale Rd and Indian School Rd and began to block traffic. Scottsdale officers moved in with police vehicles and loud speakers and ordered the protesters out of the intersection. The protesters immediately complied and moved out of the intersection. At that point, the group began to split up and move in different directions, according to police.

At 7:10 p.m., one Scottsdale protestor was seen throwing a rock through the front window of the Trailside Galleries at 7330 E. Scottsdale Mall. The rock struck and damaged a statue inside of the gallery. The total damage was estimated at $6000. The protester was later identified and arrested in the downtown area.

At 7:30 p.m., two other men, not related to the protest, according to police, began yelling obscenities at the protesters. The two males then instigated a physical fight with protesters in front of the Wasted Grain bar at 7295 E. Stetson. Scottsdale officers arrested the two subjects. Both subjects were charged with Disorderly Conduct and Assault.
