Driver arrested after release from hospital

Arizona Department of Public Safety arrests and books driver of single-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a 16-year-old female

On Friday, December. 12, 2014 just after 5 a.m., a fatal and multiple-injury one-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 10 near the U.S.60 interchange in Phoenix. Five people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident; four were transported to local hospitals with injuries. One passenger, Davonna Crouch, 16, was pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver of the vehicle, Robert Joseph Lopez Jr., 19, was released from the hospital on Dec.14, 2014 and immediately taken into custody by DPS detectives. Lopez was booked into Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office 4th Avenue Jail on one count of second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument, one count of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury and one count of endangerment.

Detectives suspect that impairment was a factor in the collision and charges are still pending.
