On January 5, 2015 at approximately 7:00 a.m., Tucson Police Department officers responded to the report of a vehicle collision at the intersection of East 22nd Street and South Country Club Road.
Detectives were able to determine that a 2002 Hyundai Accent ran the red light heading northbound on Country Club and was struck by a 2010 Toyota Tundra that was heading eastbound on 22nd. Tucson Fire Department personnel responded and transported the driver of the Hyundai Accent to the University of Arizona Medical Center due to life threatening injuries. The driver was later pronounced deceased at the hospital and identified as 51 year old Mimi Jones. Next of kin have been notified.
The driver of the Toyota Tundra was not injured. It has not yet been determined if impairment was a contributing factor in this collision.
