Reckless driver arrested after Pima County manhunt

koppOn January 17, 2015, at approximately 1:15 p.m., a Pima County Sheriff’s deputy saw a vehicle travelling southbound on Bear Canyon Road at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle lost control in a turn and slid across the road hitting a bush before coming to a stop.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old Michael Kopp, exited the vehicle and fled into the desert. Deputies began an extensive search for the suspect who was running through neighborhood yards to avoid apprehension. After searching for nearly 2 hours with negative results the search was terminated.

Approximately 15 minutes after the search was terminated, Michael Kopp was seen running across Harrison Road southbound into the desert. Deputies began searching for him in the area where he was last seen. After a short search, Michael Kopp was taken into custody.

Michael Kopp was transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Center and booked on the following charges:

• Driving on a Suspended License
• Reckless Driving
• Criminal Damage
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Criminal Trespass
