Maricopa County man convicted for molesting stepdaughters

Edgar Garcia, age 35, faces more than 100 years in prison for repeatedly raping and molesting his stepdaughters over a seven-year period. After a two-week trial, a Maricopa County jury convicted Garcia on multiple counts of sexual conduct with a minor, sexual molestation and kidnapping. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 25, 2015.

On October 30, 2012, a 20-year-old woman and her 16-year-old sister contacted Mesa Police to report that they had been sexually violated numerous times by their stepfather, Edgar Garcia, during their childhood. They provided information about various sex acts Garcia performed beginning when the youngest victim was 4 years old and her sister was 8 or 9.

On November 29, 2012, a Grand Jury handed up an indictment charging Garcia with 13 counts of sexual conduct with a minor, two counts of sexual molestation and two counts of kidnapping. One count was later dismissed. Garcia was ultimately found guilty on all but six counts, four of which resulted in not guilty verdicts and two of which resulted in a hung jury.

Seven of Garcia’s convictions carry mandatory consecutive sentences of 10 to 27 years.
