On February 19, 2015, at approximately 12:45 p.m., escaped Pima County inmate Laura Rios, was apprehended by detectives with the Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (FIST). Rios was taken into custody near the intersection of Campbell Avenue and Irvington Road as she was leaving a nearby residence.
Rios was with her boyfriend, identified as 34-year-old Rodolfo Rios, who was taken into custody for probation violation on an Armed Robbery charge. She was hauled back to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex and booked on one count of Escape.
Rios had been in custody serving several months for a probation violation in connection with a charge of trafficking in stolen property.
On February 15, 2015, at approximately 1:00 p.m., deputies responded to the Pima Animal Care Center about Rios walking away from a work crew. Rios was working as part of an inmate work crew when she disappeared. Witnesses reported seeing a woman matching Rios’ description get into a vehicle and leave the area. Deputies searched the area with the assistance of the Tucson Police Department, but were unable to locate Rios.
Inmate work crews have been working at Pima Animal Care Center since November 1st, 2014, assisting with cleaning of the facilities. This is the first incident of this nature at the Pima Animal Care Center.
