Tucson collision kills motorcyclist

On Sunday March 22, 2015, just before 11:30 a.m., Tucson Police Department officers responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger truck on S. Harrison Rd. and E. 32nd St. The motorcyclist was transported to the University of Arizona Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Shortly after arrival, the motorcyclist passed away from his injuries.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that the driver of a 2001 Harley Davidson Motorcycle was southbound on Harrison Road in the median lane. The driver of a 1997 Ford F150 was eastbound on 32nd Street, on the west side of the street, attempting to cross both south and northbound lanes of travel to continue eastbound. The driver of the truck emerged from the stop sign but the motorcyclist was unable to stop in time and collided with the passenger truck. The driver of the truck remained on scene and was cited for Failure to Yield from a Stop Sign and Collision Causing Death by a Moving Violation. The initial investigation revealed that speed and alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in the collision.

The motorcyclist has been identified as 46 year-old Nobel Thorpe. Next of kin have been notified.
