Deputies with the Sheriff’s Traffic Unit are investigating a fatal collision, which occurred in the 11000 block of South Nogales Highway. An investigation at the scene revealed a Chevrolet Suburban was travelling northbound on Nogales Highway. A Hyundai passenger car was going southbound. Both cars apparently travelled within the posted speed limit of 55 mph.
The 80-year-old male driver of the passenger car drifted into the northbound lane and collided with the Chevrolet. The 42-year-old driver of the Suburban suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The elderly driver, who was identified as Kenneth Lamar Ray of Green Valley, died at the scene. Both were wearing their seatbelts.
Investigators at the scene did not believe impairment was a factor. The investigation continues.
