Pima County wash totals $4.2 mil

In a March 2014 newsletter, Supervisor Miller advised residents that the County’s Communications Department has a $900,000 annual budget, but the Board of Supervisors approved with a 4-1 vote a $100,000 contract with an outside firm to perform public relation services related to the Arroyo Chico/High School Wash project.

The project is now completed and last week County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry invited the “who’s who of Pima County’s infamous to join the celebration. District 2 Supervisor Ramón Valadez, Tucson Unified School District Superintendent H.T. Sánchez, Pima County Regional Flood Control District Director Suzanne Shields and County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry spoke at the April 16 ceremony.

The High School Wash Storm Drain, which cost approximately $4.2 million, consists of 776 linear feet of a new concrete box culvert that connects with the existing 1930’s vintage concrete box culvert under Tucson High School. The new storm drain moves storm flow from the inlet at Euclid Avenue east to Tucson High School into the new 8th Street storm drain system, and ultimately into the Santa Cruz River.
