Gregory Hill, age 44, made a wrong turn this week after he assaulted a Phoenix man and stole his bike.
On April 23rd, 2015 a Phoenix Police officer was patrolling the area of 300 North 2nd Avenue when he saw Hill riding on a bicycle and looking into parked cars. After arousing the police officer’s suspicion, “Hill who had other ideas and decided to drop his bike and run” in response to the officer attempt to talk to him.
After the officer was able to detain Hill, he checked out the bicycle which Hill insisted was his.
According to police, the officer would normally have no reason not to believe Hill. However, the bike was registered under the Phoenix Police Bicycle Registry Program (BRP). A quick check on his computer and the officer found out the bicycle was registered to another citizen. Caught in the lie Hill admitted the bike was not his according to police.
Police report that “a little while before the officer’s encounter with Hill, a 62 year old citizen had been sitting at the Central Bus Station when a black male approached him, assaulted him and took his bicycle. The suspect fled the area on the bike, and ran smack dab into a Phoenix Police officer. The citizen had just registered his bike with Phoenix Police two days before. He is going to be OK and he has his property back. Hill was given a free ride to jail for robbery, a class four felony.
