On Friday, the Town of Oro Valley announced that it has formally entered into a purchase agreement with HSL Properties to acquire the El Conquistador Country Club and associated facilities. The purchase spurred a recall effort against Mayor Satish Hiremath, and Council members Joe Hornat, Lou Waters and Mary Snider by Oro Valley Citizens for Open Government (OVCOG).
On Friday, OVCOG announced that it has amassed sufficient petition signatures to recall Hornat, Waters, and Snider. The group will be submitting the petitions to the Town of Oro Valley on Monday, April 27th for review and processing.
Signature gathering continues for Mayor Hiremath. A higher number of signatures is required for the mayor’s position and the group says they desire a sufficient cushion to ensure a successful recall process.
Ryan Hartung, who is leading the recall effort, said on Friday, “In light of the Town’s announcement today, it is only fitting that our efforts to ensure that Oro Valley residents are heard,” and that we are able to announce today our success. We thank not only our volunteers, but the thousands of Oro Valley residents who sought us out and signed their names to these petitions. It’s our hope that this process will result in an election for these seats that better aligns with the stated needs and desires of all Oro Valley residents.”
O.V.C.O.G. in Oro Valley, Arizona is a Citizens Political Committee formed following the Town Council’s vote to purchase the El Conquistador property. For more information contact OVCOG2015@gmail.com, or visit www.OVCOG.org.
