Sheriff’s Group Visits Cochise County

On Saturday April 25, 2015 several members from the National Sheriff’s Association travelled to Cochise County to visit with Sheriff Mark Dannels, US Border Patrol, and Cochise County ranchers.

The purpose of the visit was to gain a first hand account of issues currently faced in our area with specifics of an unsecured border and to identify ways to address these issues.

Some of the group members were, Jonathan Thompson, NSA Executive Director; Sheriff Harold Eavenson (Rockwall County, TX) NSA 3rd Vice President; Breanna Bock-Nielsen, NSA Director of Government Affairs; Lindsay Hopkins, NSA Manager of Membership; and Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu along with other Arizona Sheriff’s.

Local ranchers in related their experiences with the NSA group while Dannels outlined specifics of what life on the border is on a daily basis from a law enforcement perspective.

The group met at the Turquoise Valley Golf Course in Naco for the two hour meeting with a border tour ending at the Brian A. Terry Border Patrol station at the conclusion.

Golfers have a great view of the border fence from some holes, but must be careful not to tee off while illegal aliens are crossing the fairways.
