Man shot during TPD chase

On May 9, 2015, just after 10:00 p.m., Tucson Police officers shot a man they were pursuing after they responded to the 300 block of West Calle Alvord regarding a fight between a male and female.

According to a press release, officers spoke with a woman who told them that she witnessed the altercation between the couple, and that the man pointed a gun at her when she tried to intervene. Within minutes, officers located the male and female. As officers attempted to make contact, the male suspect ran and a foot pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, shots were fired and the suspect was struck multiple times.

Police claim the suspect was armed with a handgun at the time of the shooting.

Officers immediately rendered first aid, and then transported the man to a local area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Homicide Unit and the Office of Internal Affairs responded to continue the investigation. As is standard practice in all officer involved shootings, the Homicide Unit will conduct a criminal investigation into the incident.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
