Flagstaff Student Wins Congressional Art Competition

U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., announced District One’s winner in the national 2015 Congressional Art Competition. And the winner is “Serenity” by Jessica Stoney, of Flagstaff High School.

Stoney created a digital stitching – a process utilizing multiple photographs to create a larger panorama – that features a bucolic landscape set against one of Arizona’s famous sunsets. “Serenity” will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol alongside winning submissions from other congressional districts.

“Jessica’s artwork highlights some of the stunning natural beauty found throughout Arizona,” Kirkpatrick said. “I’m excited for folks from across the country to see what she created and to get a glimpse of why we love our state.”

Artwork from runners-up will be displayed in Kirkpatrick’s district offices in Arizona. They are:

First Runner-Up: “Liberty” by Ben McDowell, Ironwood Ridge High School, Oro Valley

Second Runner-Up: “Paris in the Spring” by Skylar Symonds, Ironwood Ridge High School, Oro Valley

Third Runner-Up: “Cowboy” by Shoudi Estes, Round Valley High School, Eagar

Honorable Mention: “Age of Euphoria” by Francisco Vazquez, Ironwood Ridge High School, Oro Valley
