Brennan Declares Phoenix Mayor Candidacy

Longtime Phoenix resident, Anna Brennan has officially declared her intent to run for Mayor of Phoenix, hoping to unseat Mayor Greg Stanton.

“My interest in serving as Mayor of Phoenix is based on my desire to serve the citizens of Phoenix, to lead the outstanding men and women who serve their fellow citizens in this great city and to partner with Phoenix officials and agencies in delivering the services the citizens of Phoenix have every right to expect and deserve from their City government,” said Brennan in a statement released Wednesday.

Brennan has owned several successful businesses and currently works as a registered nurse in her own business in Phoenix. Brennan said she thinks “there is a yearning among voters of Phoenix for real and tested leadership and the support that I have received from my volunteer base is one small testament to that.”

Stanton has come under criticism for his efforts to push sales tax increases. Phoenix’s overall sales tax rate stands at 2 percent, which is the highest in the Valley cities. Phoenix currently has a sale tax for transportation of 0.4 percent, and Stanton wants to raise it to 0.72 percent.
