On June 3, 2015, the U.S. Marshals Service located 49-year-old Kevin Dunbar in New York City, New York. He was taken into custody on his outstanding warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder. Two detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Domestic Violence Unit responded to New York to further the investigation.
Dunbar is awaiting extradition back to Tucson, Arizona.
On March 10, 2015, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Tucson Police officers responded to the 2500 block of East River Rd for the report of a possible domestic violence related shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. The female victim was treated by citizens in the area, as well as officers from the Tucson Police Department and members of the Tucson Fire Department.
The victim was then transported to a local area hospital where she received continued treatment for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives learned that the victim recently broken up with Dunbar and had obtained an order of protection against him. On the date of the incident, the victim was attempting to leave the parking lot of her residence when Dunbar pulled in behind her and blocked her vehicle. Dunbar then got out of his vehicle and walked toward hers. The victim immediately called 911 and reported the incident. While speaking with the 911 operator, Dunbar pulled out a handgun and began firing into the vehicle. The victim was struck multiple times and Dunbar fled the scene in a silver Dodge Charger.
