On June 3, 2015, Surprise Police responded to several suspicous person calls in the area of Reems Road and Cholla Street in Surprise.
Local citizens were advising the police of a suspicious person in the area ringing door-bells. The person ringing the doorbells would wait until the homeowners came to the door and then would walk away from the homes. Several of the callers described the suspicious person as a black male, approximately 16-19 years old, wearing a black tank top and khaki shorts.
While officers gathered the information, the police received another call for service, a possible burglary, from a citizen in an adjacent neighborhood. The caller stated a black male, matching the description of the suspicious person, was seen climbing a block wall fence and entering the back yard of their neighbor’s home.
Upon arrival, the responding officers heard an active burglary alarm sounding and discovered a broken window in the rear portion of the residence. The officers entered the home, but found no one inside the residence.
At the same time, another officer, circulating the area, observed a black male, matching the description of the suspicious person, walking down the street. The man, later identified as Corey Brown, a 19-year-old Surprise man, matched the overall physical description and was currently wearing a black tank top and khaki shorts. After multiple witnesses positively identified Mr. Brown as the suspicious person, he was placed under arrest.
Later, detectives from the Surprise Police Department served a search warrant at Mr. Brown’s residence in Surprise. During the search warrant, multiple items of evidence linking him to several other home burglaries in Surprise, including two stolen firearms, were collected.
Mr. Brown was transported and booked into the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail for multiple counts of Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Trespass in the First Degree, and for Criminal Damage.
