Tucson Man Dies Months After Car Accident

On March 27, 2015, just before 1:30 p.m., Tucson Police officers responded to a report of a collision involving multiple vehicles at the intersection of N. Craycroft Road and E. 5th Street. On June 7, 2015, the 94-year-old passenger, Ned Gaston, succumbed to injuries related to the collision.

Investigation on scene revealed Mr. Gaston was a front seat passenger in a 2013 Honda that was driven by a 70-year-old female. The driver of the Honda was traveling southbound on Craycroft Road approaching E. 5th Street. A 2005 Chevy SUV was traveling northbound on Craycroft Road. The driver of the Honda made an eastbound turn onto 5th Street in front of the SUV. The SUV struck the Honda which was then pushed into a westbound vehicle stopped on E. 5th Street.

The Tucson Fire Department responded and evaluated everyone on scene. Mr. Gaston had a minor injury to his arm and declined to go to the hospital. However, as the investigation progressed the officer noticed Mr. Gaston was having difficulties so he requested the paramedics again to further evaluate him. Mr. Gaston was subsequently transported to Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital for further treatment. No other injuries were reported.

The 70-year-old driver of the Honda was cited for failure to yield way while making a left turn at an intersection.
