Flags Lowered for Oro Valley Soldier

Flags at all state office buildings were lowered to half-staff in honor of Army Specialist Michael William Corey of Oro Valley on Friday.

Spc. Corey, 31, died while alone during a training exercise while on deployment to South Korea. Spc. Corey was assigned to the 441st Military Intelligence Battalion in Camp Zama, outside Tokyo.

“Spc. Corey’s death is a sobering reminder of the daily perils faced by our nation’s brave men and women in uniform,” said Governor Ducey. “We are grateful for his service, indebted to his sacrifice, and saddened by his passing. My thoughts and condolences are with his family and fellow soldiers, and the prayers of all Arizonans and Americans continue to be with all of the men and women selflessly serving in our country’s armed forces.”

The governor has directed that flags again be lowered on the day of Spc. Corey’s interment, for which services are pending.
