Woman Killed in Collision With Sun Tran Bus

The Tucson Police Department is investigating a fatal vehicle collision that occurred on Monday in the 1400 block of E. Roger Road.

On June 22, 2015, around 3:20 p.m., officers from Operations Division West, along with members from the Tucson Fire Department, responded to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a Sun Tran bus. Upon arrival, they located an adult female with obvious injuries and immediately transported her to Banner University Medical Center. Shortly after arrival, the female succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded to continue the investigation. The investigation is still ongoing but the preliminary information revealed the driver of 2013 Nissan Rogue was eastbound on Roger Road from Mountain Avenue. It appears the driver attempted to pass a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser on the left and made contact with the driver’s side rear bumper of the Chrysler. The contact caused the driver of the Nissan to then swerve into the westbound lane where a 2008 Sun Tran bus was traveling, resulting in a head-on collision.

The driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seat belt. Four people inside the Sun Tran bus suffered minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital from the scene. The driver of the Chrysler was not injured.

The driver of the Nissan has been identified as 50-year-old Sandra Galins. Next of kin has been notified.
