Tuesday evening drowning victim 2-year-old Victoria Rivas, was transported to Banner University Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned the gate to the pool, which had a functioning lock, was propped open and the doggy door leading to the backyard/pool area was unsecure.
At the time of the incident, the victim’s father, identified as 23-year-old Sean Hughes, was responsible for her care as her mother, identified as 25-year-old Heather Rivas, was taking a nap. A search warrant was served and detectives found drug paraphernalia indicative of possible drug use.
Sean Hughes was transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex and booked on the following charges:
• 2nd Degree Murder
• Child Abuse
Heather Rivas was transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Center and booked on one count of Child Abuse
