Spencer Canyon Closed Due To Mountain Lion Reports

The Coronado National Forest, Santa Catalina Ranger District, has temporarily closed Spencer Canyon Campground until further notice due to an investigation of nearby wildlife activity.

An investigation is being conducted into reports of mountain lion activity in the area.

Developed camping opportunities nearby include General Hitchcock Campground and Rose Canyon Lake Campground. Dispersed camping areas (without developed facilities) can be found on Bigelow Road and Oracle Control Road.

The ranger district and Forest Supervisor’s offices of the Coronado National Forest in Douglas, Nogales, Safford, Sierra Vista and Tucson will be closed July 3 in observance of the 4th of July holiday. The Sabino Canyon Visitor Center will be open for business throughout the holiday weekend.
