DPS Seizes $428,981 in Currency

On July 13, 2015 at around 10:00 a.m., an Arizona State Trooper made a traffic stop in the Phoenix area on a Chevy pickup pulling a horse trailer. The trooper observed numerous indicators of criminal activity during the stop and obtained consent to search the vehicle and horse trailer from the driver and only occupant. The trooper located a compartment built into the front wall of the trailer during the search that contained $428,981 in U.S. currency wrapped in a black plastic trash bag. The trooper also found a pistol in the cab of the truck during the search.

The driver, Juan Reyes Jr, 34, out of Texas was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail for violation of A.R.S 13-2317B money laundering which is a Class 3 felony.

This cash seizure is a testament to the exceptional work being done by Arizona State troopers by taking drug-related cash out of circulation. Arizona State Troopers continue to combat drug-related problems and to make our communities safer.
